Maebe Not?

You’d have to live under a rock to not know Molly-Mae Hague has released a clothing brand this week called Maebe but all I can think is Maebe not?

Molly- Mae has released a clothing brand that is “designed to bring beautiful elevations to your daily wardrobe” and everyone who knows who Molly-Mae is has eaten it up. It sold out almost instantly but all I can seem to think is why?

All I can think is why did we need this clothing brand and to be honest we really didn’t.

The pieces are basic have all been done before when I looked at the website for research to make sure I was getting my facts right, I saw nothing special. It looks like th UK rip off of Djerf Avenue.  So, what was the point in bringing out a brand that brings nothing to the table?

I wish I could believe it was a passion project, but I just feel that it’s another ploy to make money and drive overconsumption. Molly and her team know the power she has, and she knew it would be an instant hit just because of who she is.

I have nothing against starting a clothing brand if you are willing to do it for all the right reasons. I cannot get behind a person who brings out a brand with little transparency or respect for the environment.

They claim to be the gap between fast fashion and luxury but even H&M and Zara have better transparency and ethics.

When looking at their transparency page it was all very vague.

(Maebe 2024)

Yes they are saying they produce high quality garments that have strict standards and that they “focus our commitment to both product quality and ethical production” but what are they actually doing to combat their impact on the environment. It doesn’t seem like they are doing a lot. From someone who is supposed to be an “Influencer” this type of influence is not something to be proud of.

To bring out a new clothing brand in 2024 and to not be ethically and environmentally aware is irresponsible, bad behaviour and not a brand I would want to be seen shopping from.

Greenwashing is something that comes across my mind when looking at Maebes “Transparency page” the lack of information makes me feel like they have only created a transparency page in order to tick a box. The lack of information really makes me think that is the case.

We all know in the past Molly-Mae has been the face of many fast fashion brands. PLT was the worst of them all. We all know the impact they have on the environment. So, if her and her team were willing to let her be the face of a fast fashion brand then why would they suddenly feel the need to be environmentally conscious. The fact that their garment standards live up to “Maebes Policy’s ” isn’t enough to reassure me after her past of representing fast fashion companies.

When it comes to quality the world seems to have mixed reviews one TikTok user who goes by the name @Lilymariebond claimed after one wear of the Maebe blazer it started to bobble, and the material was not the quality she was promised. Other users loved it.

The brand seems to have the quality of H&M and Zara but with the price tags of a higher end brand. Even H&M blazers do not bobble, and you are paying half the price of a Maebe blazer. The Maebe Blazer Retails for £140. Paying that price, I would be expecting a high-quality garment that has ethical and environmental standards.

At the end of the day Maebe is not the type of company I would want to waste my money on. There are plenty of brands that have good morals and help the environment not harm it (I’ll touch on this at a later date). It may seem like a cool sheek brand to buy from but remember the impact you don’t know it’s having. And remember it’s your money to spend.
